First Dance Songs of 2017

Keeping your wedding up to date

The first dance is a largely anticipated and often dreaded tradition of a wedding day. If you’re on this page it probably means that you’re on the look out for the best song for you and your partner to dance over your wedding threshold to. With the ever growing amount of dance music it’s difficult to find a modern, slow, romantic song to keep your wedding up to date. We’ve had a look over some of 2017’s song releases so far and put together a few suggestions.

Perfect - Ed Sheeran

If there’s anything that Ed can do it’s write a song ‘perfectly’ for a wedding, with his whole album bursting with beautiful love songs it was truly difficult to narrow it down to just one. We decided on ‘Perfect’ as Ed sings of a love he’s found that he doesn't want to let go, an accurate thought for guests to see the newly weds celebrating. But, if this isn’t the one for you we’d recommend giving the rest of his album a listen because there’s something for every type of romantic on there.

Say You Won’t Let Go - James Arthur

The X Factor winner made his comeback this year with a song that perfectly demonstrates a couple’s realistic commitment to each other, as he recognises his love as one that ‘lit him up’ and reflects on the little things that being in a relationship requires, even down to holding back your partner’s hair as they throw up.

This Town - Niall Horan

What’s more fitting for a first dance song than one that exclaims, ‘if the whole world was watching, I’d still dance with you?’ Niall Horan hits the nail right on the head with this acoustically romantic confession of love.

I Don’t Wanna Live Forever - Taylor Swift ft. Zayn Malik

The ‘Fifty Shades Darker’ soundtrack did not disappoint this year as it birthed a duet that is worthy of being your first dance song. As the two express how they truly can’t live without each other they sing of a modern day twist on the vows you’ll probably be sharing that day.

Love Me Now - John Legend

John Legend, who lived up to his name with his release of ‘All of Me’ 4 years ago succeeds in coming in close, if not on par, to Ed on the wedding dance song connoisseur with his new releases this year. He sings of a love that shakes him ‘right to the core’ that he can’t imagine his life without.

Love - Lana Del Rey

Lana, as always, beautifully sings of ‘getting all dressed up with nowhere to go’ because she’s ‘young and in love’ which, if you ask us, is quite almost the dictionary definition of a wedding. What better, than for the two most dressed up and in love people in the room to share a dance to this song?
